VERSO-programme was founded in 2000 to implement restorative approach to the field of education all over Finland. VERSO-programme offers training in restorative approach, restorative practices and mediation to children, youth and professionals working with children in early childhood education, schools, vocational institutions, and other learning institutions. The training provides practical methods for mediation and for building a culture of respectful interaction. Mediation in educational and learning communities addresses offensive behaviour as early and effectively as possible.

Our vision is for mediation to become a natural part of everyday practice in education, valued as the primary method for conflict resolution and for supporting children’s and youth’s participation. Our mission is to empower children and adults to learn constructive conflict skills and uphold children's rights even in challenging situations. Our strategy is to promote mediation as a lifelong civic skill through nationwide training, data-informed development, and a focus on strengthening participation.

Since 2003 VERSO has operated under the background organization the Finnish Forum for Mediation (FFM), which is an independent non-governmental organization aiming to promote well-being in societies through restorative justice and mediation. The VERSO-programme is supported by the Funding Centre for Social Welfare and Health Organisations (STEA).
